It’s one of the questions we are asked most at the front desk. The short answer: for many back and neck problems, either is a good first step. Physiotherapists and chiropractors are both university-trained, registered with AHPRA and able to assess you without a referral.
How physiotherapy works
Physios treat the whole body: joints, muscles, tendons and nerves, from sprained ankles to rehab after surgery. Treatment combines hands-on work with a strong focus on exercise, so you can manage the problem yourself and stop it coming back.
How chiropractic works
Chiropractors focus on the spine and how it moves. Treatment usually includes spinal adjustments (quick, controlled movements of a joint), soft-tissue work and mobility exercises. Many people with stiff, sore backs and necks feel relief quickly.
Which should I book?
- Sports injuries, sprains, tendon pain or rehab after surgery: physio
- Pregnancy, postnatal and pelvic floor problems: our women’s health physio
- Stiff, sore back or neck, or tension headaches: either; chiro if you like hands-on adjustments
- Not sure? Book a physio initial consultation and we’ll point you to the right person
Because our physios and chiropractor share the same clinic and notes (with your permission), you never have to start from scratch. If you would do better with the other approach, we’ll tell you, and book you in.
